PUNDITS AGREE: MEEK DELIVERED
"This race is far from over"
MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. - Last night's second Florida U.S. Senate debate proved one thing: Kendrick Meek will fight for Florida's middle class. Describing Kendrick as "strong all night [and] landing some of the best punches," the St. Petersburg Times reported that he "cast himself as the scrappy defender of working people."
The Gainesville Sunagreed that "Meek turned in a scrappy performance, repeatedly turning the subject to the middle class and jobs."
Unwilling to veer from the issues that matter most, The New York Times noted that Kendrick "dismissed what he called 'attacks on family members' and changed the subject to jobs."
Pointing out that both Rubio and Crist want to borrow $700 billion from China in order to give away tax breaks to the wealthy, Kendrick "worked to lump Crist and Rubio together as conservative Republicans, saying that both support 'trickle-down economics' and would take the country back to Bush-era politics."
"For all of Florida's children in foster care awaiting adoption, Meek said, Crist is akin to Alabama's late governor George Wallace," noted The Washington Post.
Unlike his conservative Republican opponents, Kendrick did not run away to gather himself - or out right avoid - the press onsite. In fact, Kendrick "was the only candidate to talk with the media after the debate."
"Meek, not Weak," read a caption introducing Kendrick's passionate appearance on Lawrence O'Donnell's new MSNBC program, "The Last Word."
Last night's debate was hosted by WFTV in Orlando and moderated by George Stephanopoulos. The next debate is scheduled for October 15.
